THE FIVE ELEMENTS AND FIVE ELEMENT ACUPUNCTURE?

Classical Five Element Acupuncture has its roots in ancient China where, thousands of years ago, the sages observed nature and its cycles and seasons and realized that humans also experience these inter-related systems. They observed that there are five seasons in each year, including Late Summer as a season unto itself.

Classical Five Element Acupuncture is a different from Traditional Chinese Medicine in its approach to acupuncture and healing. For each season, there is a corresponding element and for each element there are many connected aspects related to life, the organs, meridians and energy systems. All of us have all of these systems and they are all inter-dependent.

The season/element correlations are:

Winter

Water
Spring

Wood
Summer

Fire
Late Summer

Earth
Autumn

Metal

With Classical Five Element Acupuncture we work from the inside out. In every person there is an element that is the weakest link in the chain. With treatment, we work to strengthen that element so it can support the work of all the others. The result is total health and the resolution of symptoms that may stem from many different sources. Total health includes not just the body but also the mind and spirit, so a person’s emotions and feel for life are also included in the treatment goals.

An Englishman named Professor J.R. Worsley learned Five Element Acupuncture from the masters and became a master of it in his own right. He is considered the father of Five Element Acupuncture as it is known today.
